Product Description
Microsoft Visual Studio Team Edition for Database Professionals delivers a market shifting database development product that provides a foundation for managed database evolution through the use of an offline, visual studio project-centered source code control system together with a suite of tools designed to help understand the impact of proposed changes. Schemas, DML and metadata can be versioned, unit tests can be created and executed to ensure quality, and comparisons can be made with test and production systems prior to deployment.
Microsoft Visual Studio Team Edition for Database Professionals enables database proffesionals with more control over their Microsoft SQL Server databases throughout the application file cycle, and with a foundation of change management and process integration through an intregated set of functionality that enables database developers and administartors to be more productive, increase security and drive quality.
OVERVIEW:- Cross-database references - Support is improved to enable you to reference objects in different databases by using database project references or referencing a database metafile (.dbmeta). This support will reduce or eliminate the cross database reference warnings within a database project.
- Improved file support within SQL Server file groups - You may define files within file groups as database project properties instead of having to create files and file groups within the pre-deployment storage script.
- Variables - A Variables page is added to the database properties. This new page enables you to define setvar variables for use in the deployment scripts. Additionally, SR1 supports the latest service pack release from Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (SP2). The SR1 also supports the Windows Vista operating system.
- The new Visual Studio Database Project allows you to import your database schema and place it under source control. When the time comes to deploy schema changes the new project system allows you to quickly build update scripts and then provides a mechanism to deploy them to the database of your choice
- Rename Refactoring allows you to easily rename any object in your database and be assured that all references to that object will be renamed to correspond to the change
- A New T-SQL editor allows you to be more productive when writing T-SQL code from within Visual Studio including support for parallel execution of queries and viewing of client side statistics
- SchemaCompare allows you to quickly compare the schema of two databases (or your source controlled project and a database) and script updates to bring the database schemas into sync
- DataCompare allows you to quickly compare two databases and script updates to bring the data in these databases into sync
- The Database Unit Testing infrastructure allows you to create database unit tests using T-SQL or managed code
- DataGenerator lets you create data generation plans that produce repeatable sets of meaningful data based upon your existing production databases that can be deployed to a database prior to running unit tests thus ensuring consistent test results
