  Sometimes you need a report where a set of records stays the same but the details change. Let's say you want to track the results of sales leads received yesterday. Create a Snapshot Link file to save a specific set of records at a point in time. This also preserves the same layout, view and sort order. Any changes you make to the file will be updated in the database. Plus email the Snapshot Link to anyone who has FileMaker Pro 11 for easy collaboration.


• Recurring Import
  In FileMaker Pro 11 you can establish a Recurring Import from Microsoft Excel, CSV or TAB files. Set it up once, and every time you open your database, the data from your Excel spreadsheet or data file will update automatically in FileMaker Pro. Imported data is read-only. Use this data to easily create sales reports, track workflow and collaborate with others.


• Quick Find
  In FileMaker Pro 11 you can search for information just as you would in a web browser. Enter a word or phrase in the search box and FileMaker Pro will search all fields in your layout - right in Browse mode. Even customise Quick Find to search only certain layouts or fields. Finding your information is a snap with Quick Find.


• Inspector
  Design your databases more efficiently than before with the new Inspector - a master tool palette that organises all the layout objects and properties in one convenient place. Now all your favourite design tools are right at your fingertips. With the new Inspector, you'll save time and discover things you can do to your layout that you never knew existed before.


• Object Badges
  Visually identify different properties in your layouts with new colour-coded icons. Quickly spot fields and objects that contain Conditional Formatting or Script Triggers. Determine which fields are searchable via Quick Find. Plus distinguish between indexed fields from the same table and fields from related tables.

• Improved Quick Start Screen
  The Quick Start Screen in FileMaker Pro 11 has a new, streamlined interface to help you get started more quickly than ever before. Create a new database, manage favourite files or find helpful resources - all from one screen. The Quick Start Screen appears when you open FileMaker Pro. Or you can access it anytime from the Help menu.


• Text highlighting
  Use highlighting to emphasise words or numbers in fields. Simply select your data then click the text highlight button. Identify important text for yourself or your colleagues.


• Layout Folders
  Organise all your layouts in folders - it's as easy as drag and drop. From the Manage Layout dialog box you can create new layouts, folders or separators. Plus, easily edit, copy and delete layouts from the same screen.


• Portal Filtering
  Add Portal Filtering in your layouts to automatically show only the related records that you specify. Filters leverage the full power of the calculation engine. Display data the way you want without using complex table occurrences or relationships.


• Scripting Enhancements
  Create and modify scripts through the Button Setup dialog box in Layout Mode - no need to go through separate menus and dialog boxes. This streamlined approach can also be used when creating Script Triggers, opening and closing script steps and creating scripts in Custom Menus in FileMaker Pro 11 Advanced.

Compatibility
FileMaker Pro 11/Pro 11 Advanced databases use the same file format (.fp7) as FileMaker Pro 10/Pro 10 Advanced, FileMaker Pro 9/Pro 9 Advanced and FileMaker Pro 8.x/Pro 8.x Advanced therefore databases can easily be shared between these versions. While FileMaker Pro 7/Developer 7 have the same file format, they are no longer supported due to product obsolescence.
Features specific to the newer versions are only supported in the newer versions (e.g. FileMaker Charts and Quick Finds introduced in FileMaker Pro 11/Pro 11 Advanced, are only supported by FileMaker Pro 11/Pro 11 Advanced).

Additional requirements (all platforms)

• Networking:
  TCP/IP: limited to nine simultaneous FileMaker client connections; each client requires a licensed copy of the software; see FileMaker Server 11 for increased capacity. FileMaker Pro 11 supports Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) addresses, as well as IPv4 addresses.
  Any computer accessing FileMaker Pro files over a network will need to have a licensed installation of versions 8.x, 9, 10, or 11 of FileMaker Pro or FileMaker Pro Advanced. FileMaker Pro 7 and FileMaker Developer 7 use the same file format as FileMaker Pro 11/Pro 11 Advanced but are no longer supported due to product obsolescence.
• Instant Web Publishing:
  A host computer with continuous access to the Internet or intranet via TCP/IP. (FileMaker Pro 11/Pro 11 Advanced can manage up to five simultaneous Instant Web Publishing sessions.
• Web browser requirements:
  To use a database shared with Instant Web Publishing, Windows web users need Microsoft Internet Explorer version 8.0 or 7.0 or Firefox 3.5. On the Mac, web users need Safari 4.0 or Firefox 3.5. Other Mozilla family browsers are not blocked but are unsupported and users will receive a dialog encouraging them to upgrade to a supported browser. JavaScript must be enabled in the web browser.
